Karina Synytsia's artistic practice is deeply rooted in studying the interaction between humans and their environment. She strives to convey inner experiences and psychological aspects of life through her work. The author's feelings, memories, and observations serve as counterpoints in these works.
The work, Quick, Easy Move of Memory, is based on the experience of helping friends evacuate artworks at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This prompted the artist to look for lighter and more compact materials for her artistic practices. The presented work was created on glued paper, which can be easily rolled up and moved to another room if necessary. The painting depicts a fragment of the interior of the dormitory room where the artist lives. Thanks to the mobility of the material, Synytsia was able to create a work that easily adapts to changing circumstances. Thus, in a new place, she can recreate her native space as an island of stability and security.
The artist emphasizes the importance of details like the room's interior, which not only reflects her memories but also points to the broader context of perception of space. This work is a means of exploring and visualizing the sense of loss that accompanies the process of environmental change. Her work becomes a metaphor for the search for new forms of security and comfort in the face of instability and change, which is especially relevant in the context of forced displacement.
