The screening of Dear Beautiful Beloved by Juri Rechinsky continues the Bridges of Solidarity program within the Sense of Safety international art project. This event is held simultaneously at De Balie in Amsterdam and the YermilovCentre in Kharkiv as part of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
Dear Beautiful Beloved is a careful and sensitive account of several humanitarian operations entirely dependent on the boundless dedication of volunteers. In the midst of wartime violence, they support refugees and guide them to train stations, help distressed seniors feel at home in bare reception shelters, and drive through the country to retrieve bodies, keep records, and safeguard belongings. Tirelessly, they continue their work, bringing moments of light even in dark times---though these moments never last long.
After the screening, a live discussion with the director, Juri Rechinsky, and co-curator of The Sense of Safety Tatiana Kochubinska takes place in Amsterdam. The audience in Kharkiv is able to join the conversation online and ask questions in real-time, fostering a meaningful exchange between both locations.
